CDL Testing

DCS School of Driving

Testing and Training Information for DCS School of Driving Students

Testing is included with your enrollment in the class and CDL program.  DCS School of Driving vehicles are reserved exclusively for students enrolled in DCS School of Driving.  If you are not enrolled in the class, you must bring your own vehicle for testing.  Please contact us if you need yard or road training in your company vehicle.

Entry-level driver training (ELDT) for yard and road training is available.  We cannot conduct testing for anyone with a permit issued after February 7th, 2022, until they have completed ELDT. Theory can be found by doing a Google search for "ELDT theory online."  The costs listed below are for individuals who have not attended the class.

Third-Party Testing

You may have noticed that you can no longer take your commercial driver exam at the local PennDOT Driver Licensing Center.  Instead, you must take your exam at a local third-party test site.

We can help. We have examiners available and can usually schedule your exam within one to three weeks—often as quickly as two days. The test generally takes about three hours to complete.

DCS School of Driving follows federal testing guidelines, which can be found on the PennDOT website. Call us for more details.

Testing Costs

Tests using a vehicle provided by the student:

  • Initial test at DCS School of Driving: $315
  • Retesting after failing to complete a section at DCS School of Driving: $105

Fees for tests not administered (e.g., due to a failed section):
The fee will be credited toward future testing.

Any test—including retests:
Must be scheduled at least two days in advance. You must have completed entry-level driver training (for theory, yard, and road) before scheduling a test.

If you are a company with your own vehicle, we may be able to train and test you. This applies only if your company name appears on the bill, and we can use your vehicle. We are unable to train anyone who is not an enrolled student or whose bill is not paid by the company.  If you believe this applies to you, please call (717) 586-9648 x102 to speak with Steve about your options.

Please Note

We are a third-party test administrator. We can conduct the tests and score the results, but we CANNOT issue a license.

The results are sent to Harrisburg, and your license will be sent to you in the mail.

It generally takes about one to two weeks for you to receive your license from
PennDOT.
